The mid-18th century coat is complete. Our next project will be British military clothing from the Revolution, meanwhile here are some pictures.
I am delighted with how all the interfacing helped shape the pleats and the back. The back pieces are slightly too narrow, but the coat fits well. Huzzah!

I noticed. I'm trying to explore the mysterious world of women's garments.
I'm starting a 1750s coat, but I only have a reconstructing history pattern, which looking through your blog is sadly lacking in period tailoring instruction. Can you recommend a book that might help me make my coat more accurate? I usually make 1640s stuff which is slightly less complicated!!

Look for Costume Closeup by Linda Baumgarten for basic 18th Century stuff. The Cut of Men's Clothes by Norah Waugh is great, but out of print so it is expensive. Also: contact Henry Cooke to see if he has finished a mid-century pattern yet:
